SnapScout · Privacy PolicyLast updated January 2026

We collect nothing.
Because kids deserve that.

SnapScout was built from day one with a single rule: a child should be able to use this app without anyone, anywhere — including us — ever knowing they did. No accounts. No cloud. No tracking. No data. Ever.

Zero data collectedCOPPA-safe100% offline

Six promises

Privacy isn't a feature.
It's the foundation.

No accounts. Ever.

You don't sign up. You don't sign in. There is no account because there is nothing to associate with you.

No internet required.

SnapScout works completely offline. You can put your phone in airplane mode and the app works exactly the same.

Everything on-device.

AI image recognition, hunt progress, rewards — all of it lives only on your iPhone. Nothing leaves the device.

No servers, no cloud.

We don't run any backend service for SnapScout. There's literally no server to send data to even if we wanted to.

No ads. No third parties.

No advertising SDKs. No analytics SDKs. No social SDKs. No tracking pixels. No third-party code of any kind.

COPPA-safe by design.

Because we collect nothing, we're compliant with COPPA, GDPR, CCPA, and every other child privacy framework by default.

The full policy

In plain English.

We wrote this policy ourselves. No lawyer-speak. No buried clauses. No fine print to skim. If you can't understand it, that's our failure — please email us and we'll fix it.

01

What we collect

Nothing. SnapScout does not collect any personal information, behavioral data, usage analytics, location data, device identifiers, or content created by your child. There is no sign-up, no account, no profile, and no login.

The app does not ask for your name, your child's name, your email, your phone number, your age, or anything else that could identify a person.

02

How the camera and AI work

SnapScout uses your iPhone's camera to recognize real-world objects during scavenger hunts. To be perfectly clear about what that means:

  • Photos are never saved. The camera feed is processed in real-time. No image is written to disk, saved to your Photos library, or stored anywhere — not even temporarily on your device.
  • Photos are never transmitted. Recognition happens entirely on your iPhone using Apple's Vision and Core ML frameworks. Nothing leaves the device. The app does not make network requests during hunts.
  • No faces, no identification. The recognition model only identifies object categories (e.g., "leaf," "rock," "mailbox"). It does not perform facial recognition, person detection, or any form of identification.
03

What stays on the device

A small amount of information is stored locally on your iPhone so the app remembers things between sessions:

  • Hunt progress (which items have been found)
  • Earned rewards and badges
  • Custom hunts you create
  • App settings and preferences

This data lives in your phone's local app storage. It is not synced to iCloud unless you have iCloud Backup enabled for the SnapScout app in iOS Settings — in which case the data is encrypted by Apple and stored under your Apple ID. We have no access to it. Deleting the app removes all local data.

04

No third-party services

SnapScout does not integrate any third-party SDKs. There is no Google Analytics, Facebook SDK, Firebase, Mixpanel, Amplitude, Sentry, Crashlytics, AdMob, or anything else that talks to outside servers. The app is built entirely with Apple's own frameworks.

There are no ads. There are no in-app purchases. There are no upsells. SnapScout is a one-time purchase and that is the entirety of the financial relationship between us.

05

Permissions we ask for

SnapScout asks for the minimum permissions required for the app to function. Each one is opt-in at the iOS system level and can be revoked at any time in your device settings.

Camera access Required

Required to identify objects during scavenger hunts. Frames from the camera are analyzed in memory and immediately discarded. No images are saved or transmitted.

Photo library access Optional · Parent feature

Only requested if a parent chooses to attach a photo from their library to a custom hunt item (for example, a photo of a favorite toy to find). The selected image stays on your device, is used solely to power that custom hunt locally, and is never uploaded or transmitted anywhere. Decline this permission and the rest of the app continues to work exactly the same.

We do not request location, contacts, microphone, notifications, advertising identifiers, tracking, or any other permission.

06

Children's privacy (COPPA, GDPR-K)

SnapScout is designed for children ages 4 and up. The U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA), the UK Age Appropriate Design Code, and the GDPR rules for children all exist to protect kids from data collection they cannot meaningfully consent to.

SnapScout complies with all of them by simply not collecting any data in the first place. There is no parental consent flow because there is nothing to consent to. There is no "child-safe mode" because the entire app is child-safe by default.

07

Your rights

Under GDPR, CCPA, and similar laws you have the right to access, correct, or delete personal data we hold about you or your child. Since we hold no such data, there is nothing to access, correct, or delete on our end. To remove all local SnapScout data from your device, simply uninstall the app.

08

Changes to this policy

If SnapScout ever changes how it handles data — for example, if we add an optional cloud-sync feature in a future version — we will update this policy, update the "Last updated" date at the top, and require explicit opt-in for any new data collection.

We will never retroactively change what data is collected from existing users without a clear in-app notice and consent step.
